How COVID Changed Wushu Central for the Better
When the world shifted in 2020, we faced the same question every business did: how do we adapt and keep going? But at Kung Fu Kids, we didn’t just want to survive—we wanted to come out stronger. Looking back, I can say with pride that the pandemic didn’t just force us to adapt; it pushed us to improve in ways we might never have considered.
One of the first challenges was teaching forms online. Forms are detailed, precise, and traditionally best taught in person. To make them work through a screen, we redesigned them to be simpler, clearer, and easier for students to practice at home. It wasn’t long before we realized these new forms weren’t just good for online learning—they were better for in-person classes too. They fostered collaboration, confidence, and skill-building in ways our old forms never had.
We also overhauled our lesson plans. Online classes meant zero tolerance for downtime; students could lose focus in seconds. We created fast-paced, high-energy lessons designed to keep kids engaged from start to finish. When we brought these lessons back to the mat, the results were astonishing: sharper focus, more energy, and greater progress for every student.
The experience changed our mindset. Just because we’ve always done something a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the best way. Today, Kung Fu Kids is stronger, more adaptable, and more focused on serving our community than ever before. The lessons we learned during those difficult days didn’t just help us navigate the pandemic—they shaped us into a better version of ourselves.
To this day, I’m incredibly grateful for the resilience of our team, the dedication of our students, and the unwavering support of families like yours. Together, we turned a time of crisis into an opportunity to grow.
