When Sifu Troy first joined Kung Fu Kids, he was just a young student brimming with potential but, like all of us, far from perfect. Little did we know that years later, he would rise to become one of our most impactful leaders—someone who exemplifies our core value of Embracing Imperfection.

Sifu Troy’s journey wasn’t always smooth. He started as a shy beginner, grappling with nerves in class, frustration when techniques didn’t come easily, and moments of self-doubt. But rather than letting those challenges hold him back, Sifu Troy embraced them as opportunities to grow.

At just 18 years old, Sifu Troy took on an extraordinary responsibility: becoming the first head instructor of our Palo Alto location. Starting with nothing but an empty studio and a dream, he poured his heart into building an academy from the ground up.

The challenges were immense. Imagine being 18, stepping into a leadership role, and being tasked with managing not just the logistics of a new location, but also shaping the lives of every student who walked through the door. There was no established student base, no guarantees—just Sifu Troy’s determination and belief in our mission.

With courage, grit, and an unwavering commitment to his students, Sifu Troy turned that empty studio into a thriving community. Today, the Palo Alto location is home to over 400 students, each benefitting from the welcoming, growth-focused environment he has cultivated.

What makes Sifu Troy’s success even more inspiring is how he leaned into imperfection along the way. Competing in tournaments, training for his Sifu rank, and navigating the ups and downs of running a new academy all came with their fair share of challenges. But Sifu Troy never let fear of failure stop him. Instead, he embraced each obstacle as a chance to learn and improve.

Today, Sifu Troy is not only an exceptional martial artist but also a phenomenal leader. He has helped shape the lives of countless students by showing them that success isn’t about avoiding mistakes—it’s about showing up every day, ready to do your best, learn from setbacks, and keep growing.

If you’ve ever had the chance to train with Sifu Troy, you know how his energy inspires those around him. He encourages his students to push themselves, embrace challenges, and take pride in progress, not perfection.

I’m so proud of what Sifu Troy has accomplished and the incredible leader he has become. His story reminds us that embracing imperfection isn’t just a lesson for martial arts—it’s a lesson for life.
