Sometimes life takes unexpected turns, and those turns can lead to incredible journeys. For Jasmine Pham, her Kung Fu Kids story began with a bit of confusion.
At eight years old, Jasmine thought she was heading to the library with her siblings. Instead, her mom dropped them off at Kung Fu Kids for an introductory class. Jasmine wasn’t exactly dressed for martial arts—baggy pants and a t-shirt—but that didn’t stop her from diving in. From her very first lesson, Jasmine gave it her all, wanting to impress me (or, as she put it, “the boss”).
Little did she know, that day would spark a lifelong passion.
Jasmine trained with us for six years, earning her black belt and eventually becoming an instructor. But it wasn’t always easy. She was one of the youngest students in the adult class, navigating feelings of self-doubt and the pressures of being a teenager. She shared how she struggled to maintain motivation during high school, especially when martial arts wasn’t seen as the “cool” thing to do.
But Jasmine persevered. Through the ups and downs, she embraced a growth mindset, learning that mistakes weren’t failures but opportunities to improve. She realized that earning her black belt wasn’t the end of her journey—it was the beginning of a new one.
After earning her black belt, Jasmine became an instructor, discovering her love for helping students grow into the best versions of themselves. That experience profoundly shaped her future. Today, Jasmine is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and she credits her time at Kung Fu Kids for giving her the tools to succeed—not just in her career but in life.
“I learned discipline, adaptability, and professionalism through Wushu,” Jasmine shared. “But more importantly, I learned how to work with people, give them the tools to succeed, and help them become independent.”
Jasmine’s story is a powerful reminder of how martial arts is about so much more than physical skills. It’s about building confidence, resilience, and a sense of community that stays with you for life.
I’m incredibly proud of Jasmine and all that she’s accomplished. From a young girl unsure about stepping onto the mat to a leader, mentor, and now a healthcare professional changing lives—she embodies everything we hope for our students.
