Today, I’d like to share the incredible story of Stephanie McElreath, a former Kung Fu Kids student whose journey exemplifies the transformative power of martial arts.

Stephanie first joined Kung Fu Kids as a shy teenager, hesitant about trying something new. Encouraged by her mother, she attended her first class. That single step set the stage for a life-changing experience.

Stephanie describes how Kung Fu Kids became her outlet during challenging teenage years. She built self-confidence, learned perseverance, and embraced the idea that growth often comes through failure. “Being a teenager is hard,” Stephanie recalls. “But Wushu taught me that it’s okay to make mistakes. It’s all part of the journey.”

Through years of dedication, Stephanie earned her black belt and went on to become one of our beloved instructors. She loved teaching our youngest students, especially the Grasshoppers class. Seeing children’s excitement over mastering even the simplest moves was a joy for her.

After graduating high school, Stephanie pursued her passion for helping others, studying nursing at Pensacola Christian College. Today, she’s a successful certified nurse practitioner, caring for patients with the same kindness and determination she demonstrated as a student and instructor.

Looking back, Stephanie credits her time at Kung Fu Kids for shaping the person she is today. “It gave me the confidence to tackle college and my career,” she says. “Without Wushu, I would have had to learn those lessons the hard way.”

Stories like Stephanie’s remind me why we do what we do. Our goal isn’t just to teach martial arts—it’s to build character, resilience, and life skills that last a lifetime.
