At Kung Fu Kids, we believe that martial arts is about so much more than just kicks and punches—it’s about creating a space where kids feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive. Recently, I was touched by a story a parent shared about two of our incredible coaches, Nikki and Nancy, who made a meaningful difference in the lives of three young students during a Little Heroes class.
These moments reminded me why we do what we do.
Take Lila, for example. She’d always hesitated to join class because she was uncomfortable around male coaches, even playfully calling them “strawberries.” Coach Nikki took the time to connect with her, cracking a few corny jokes and promising to stand protectively by her side. That small gesture gave Lila the courage to step onto the floor for the first time—and she thrived.
Then there’s Emma, one of our youngest students, who struggled with separation anxiety during class. After her mom gently encouraged her to rejoin the group, Emma was left sad and unsure. Coach Nikki noticed and sat beside her, offering quiet reassurance and giving her the time she needed to process her emotions. With a little hug and hand-holding, Emma found the bravery to return to class.
And finally, Noah. He was feeling upset, quietly withdrawing because he didn’t think he had enough space to fully participate. Coach Nancy immediately saw his frustration, knelt down to listen, and gave him the attention he needed to feel heard. With a little adjustment and encouragement, Noah was back on the floor, happy and confident.
These may seem like small moments, but they’re at the heart of what we do. Every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and supported. That’s why I’m so proud of our coaches and the care they bring to every class.
If you’re looking for a place where your child can grow in confidence, resilience, and joy, I’d love to invite you to join our Kung Fu Kids family. Let’s create these moments together.
